Western Sahara: 2 Dead police agents in Gdem Izik camp
By African Bulletin on November 8, 2010
After meetings to settle the needs of the campers in the Gdem Izik camp in Laayoune in Western Sahara, and the decision by the majority of the protesters to pack their bags and tents and go back home, a new situation established this week-end by gangsters who took the camp protesters as hostages and harassed them in case they leave the camp.
In front of the degradation of security conditions threatening the majority of campers, the Moroccan order forces have intervened to deliver the latter from the crooks.
The order forces intervention has ended up with the arrest of many members of this group. It has also allowed the citizens to demolish their tents and go back home since their claims regarding employment, lodging and socio-economic aids were satisfied.

The order forces intervention has ended up with the arrest of many members of this group. It has also allowed the citizens to demolish their tents and go back home since their claims regarding employment, lodging and socio-economic aids were satisfied.
This event was costly to the order forces as they lost at least a police agent and a fire-fighter as well as about 70 wounded.
This toll shows that the camp was heavily armed with cudgels, knives and Molotov cocktails.
The officials arrested more than 65 criminals wanted for various crimes and felonies who were using the camp and the campers as a shield.
