Sudan: Africa Solidarity with Omar Al Bashir
The Council assured the Sudanese parties that Africa is fully supporting them and urged the international community to support the Sudanese parties in their efforts, particularly by delaying the process initiated by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and raising sanctions against Sudan. Khartoum announced, on Sunday, its withdrawal from the AU-EU summit after a dispute about the participation of Sudan whose presence would have provoked a diplomatic headache for the Europeans in particular. Thus, the Sudanese president, Omar Al Bachir has decided not to take part in the summit “in order to avoid any inconvenient situation, or trouble to Tripoli in trouble, the Foreign Minister of Sudan, Ali Karti, has declared, citing also the European pressure on the issue. According to an African diplomat, Mr. Bashir and Salva Kiir, Vice-President of Sudan and head of the semi-autonomous South Sudan, were originally scheduled to attend the meeting.
