By on January 12, 2011
Laurent Gbagbo, the outgoing Ivorian president, has rejected the formation of an unity government. The proposal was made by Alassane Ouattara, the recognized president by the Electoral Commission in Ivory Coast.

His ambassador to the United Nations, Youssoufou Bamba, had submitted  the idea to the Ouattara camp and work together with the “good people”, supporters of Laurent Gbagbo, as part of a wider and coalition cabinet, provided that Alassane Ouattara is “recognized as legitimate by President Gbagbo, he said. That is only and all diversion, countered Pascal Affi N’Guessan, chairman of the ruling Ivorian Popular Front (FPI), the political formation of Laurent Gbagbo. He added that the victory of Laurent Gbagbo is not and will not be negotiable. Raila Odinga, Kenyan Prime Minister and mediator of the African Union had, for its part, already ruled out the impossibility of sharing power in The Ivory Coast. According to his spokesman, the dialogue has always been stalled, and the country is gripped by a post-election crisis since the second round of the presidential elections held last November 28.
