How much is enough, after the Death of Ben Laden?

Revolutionary groups have perpetrated violence as means to gain political concessions; and over the last decades, we witnessed a powerful resurgence of this phenomenon in form of terrorist tactics. These last two decades revealed a new face of terrorism, that proved more dangerous and destructive than ever before, able to impact seriously on the international security environment. Thus, the use of suicide bombers or remote control devices  against innocent people or state building proved to be only the beginning of a long series of violence across the Middle East and South East Asia, that culminated with September 11 attacks in New York, but also from Bali to Mombasa, and Riyadh to Casablanca, astonishing the international community.

Then Global War on Terror was seen as one solution, by all countries siding with “Democracy”, to combat all forms of fundamentalism, and fanaticism.

Today, Osama Ben Laden, the most wanted terrorist, was killed in Pakistan, ending the long and inflicting humiliation to the Americans and the rest of the world. Yes indeed, justice has been done; but from the other side, aren’t we pushing Al-Qaeda to more atomisation? This is to say, forcing Al Qaeda to grow up but in sub-dividing its units instead of multiplying them as in the first phase of its life cycle. This bring us to talk about one local terrorist group , which has chosen to live in the African Sahara desert region and calling itself Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb(AQIM). It is one sub-division of the nebulous Al Qaida, which inflicts pain and distress, in standing behind several hostage-taking operations, killing of hostages, and attacks on isolated areas within the African region that dreams to control. Doubt is not anymore allowed about its objectives. It is projecting to transform this space as a spearhead of its main hub in the sub-region; acting in and by the name of the Nebulous Al-Qaeda; but today “Fatherless” and the leadership may suffer and open the way to some anarchy within the Nebulous. Now the radical tendencies, like AQIM remain a major impediment and have to be contained.
