Political Changes and Regional Security in North Africa and Sahel
Security in Sahel and future of AQIM especially after the death of Bin Laden, political changes in North Africa and the Arab world after the breeze of changes sweeping the area and the outcome of Western Sahara conflict after the huge support shown to the autonomy plan by the international community are the main conclusions of the international conference on “political changes and the regional security in North Africa and the Sahel” which took place on May 11th, in Tokyo under the chairmanship of Professor Kataoka Sachihiko, president of GN21.
The participants to this conference, received by Japan International Foundation, pointed out the fact that terrorism in the region is not satisfied with the ideological referential, It relies more and more on the links with the traffic network and organized crimes which prosper in Mali, North of Niger and south Algeria.
The conference was organized by the International Research Group for Transregional & Emerging Area Studies (ITEAS), with the partnership of Japan Global Network, Sapporo Institute for International Solidarity, and The Afro-Asia Forum for Development and Human Security.
