France to send more troops to Central Africa

France will send 400 more troops to the Central African Republic to help stop deadly ethnic and sectarian violence.
French President Francois Hollande announced on Friday an increase of troops to 2,000. The African Union has also deployed 6,000 soldiers.
Hollande’s decision was in response to the United Nation’s call for more international action to end the deteriorating situation in the former French colony.
More than 2.5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance as fighting intensifies between majority Christians and minority Muslims.
Hollande wants a larger-scale military intervention to contain the conflict. He is urging the UN to accelerate the deployment of a peace-keeping force in the country.
