By African Bulletin on March 1, 2014
The Moroccan consulate in the Libyan capital of Tripoli Thursday came under fire from an unknown source, while no casualties were reported among its staff or visitors, the Moroccan foreign ministry said.
In a statement, the ministry said Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar has contacted his Libyan counterpart to learn the circumstances under which the incident took place.
Mezouar asked the Libyan authorities to step up security measures to protect the Moroccan diplomatic missions and consular centers in Libya, the statement said.
Libyan officials expressed regret about and condemnation against the armed attack, pledging necessary measures to prevent such incidents from happening again, the statement added.
