UN resolution on aircraft crash
Members of the United Nations Security Council have unanimously adopted a resolution calling on all parties to cooperate with an international investigation into the shooting down of a Malaysian passenger jet over eastern Ukraine.
The council members, including Russia, voted on Monday in favor of the resolution proposed by Australia, which lost 27 citizens in the crash.
The resolution condemns the attack and calls for a thorough investigation by international bodies, including the International Civil Aviation Organization.
It demands that pro-Russia separatists allow full and unrestricted access to the site of the crash, and that victims’ bodies be treated with dignity.
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop attended the UNSC meeting.
She said the Australian government will not rest until the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice, and the bodies of all Australian victims are brought home.
