Bomb attacks hit Egypt’s transportation

Security authorities in Egypt are on high alert following a series of bomb attacks against public transportation.

Officials of the health ministry say a bomb was found in a train stopped at a station in the city of Menufia, some 60 kilometers north of Cairo, late on Wednesday.

The bomb exploded while police officers were trying to evacuate passengers. 4 officers and passengers died and 9 others were wounded.

Another bomb went off in a train at a Cairo metro station during predawn hours on Thursday.

Hours later, a third bomb planted in a trash bin on the street near the presidential office exploded, wounding 4 people.

Egypt faces a growing insurgency by Islamist militants who oppose the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi in the de facto coup by the military in July of last year.

Security authorities warn that militants have apparently expanded their attacks to public transportation systems that are widely used by the general public.
