Tanzania: President names Prof Luoga new BoT governor
President John Magufuli has appointed chairman of the board of Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to head country’s central bank; Bank of Tanzania (BoT).
Prof Florens Luoga will assume office from January next year in replacement of outgoing Prof Benno Ndulu whose tenure at the head of the BoT will come to an end in January 2018.
President Magufuli made the announcement during a recognition ceremony to celebrate members of the team that negotiated an agreement between the government and Barrick Gold Mining Corporation following a mineral export dispute.
Prof Luoga was appointed chairman of TRA’s board in July by the President who sacked Benard Mchomvu and dissolved the board of director in November.
The new governor is also University of Dar es Salaam’s Vice Chancellor (Academic).
Prof Luoga is an expert in taxation law. He will be assisted by Dr Yamungu Kayandambila, the deputy governor responsible for Economic and Financial Policies (EFP), and Dr Benard Kibesse who is in charge of Financial Stability and Deepening (FSB), the Tanzanian president noted during the ceremony.
