Mauritania: 50 MW-Solar energy plant unveiled

President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz unveiled Thursday north of capital Nouakchott a solar energy plant capable of producing 50 MW.
The project has been funded by the Mauritanian government and the Arabic Fund for Economic and Social Development to the tune of $53 million.
The plant located at Toujounine is made of 540 panels capable of producing 50 MW with the support a 33-kVA transformation station.
The initiative is part of the government plans to expand access to electricity in the country and promote green energy.
The North African country has made significant progress in lighting the country; 157 cities have been lit as of 2017 against 38 in 2010.
