Cote d’Ivoire: Macron lays Abidjan subway foundation stone
French President Emmanuel Macron jointly with his Ivoirian host Alassane Ouattara Thursday laid the foundation stone of the future Abidjan subway entirely funded by Paris to the tune of 1.4 billion euro.
The ceremony took place on the sidelines of EU-AU summit held in the Ivoirian capital.
Paris has raised the necessary funds for the project described by the French leader as France’s largest investment commitment overseas.
He also added that it underscores the Paris-Abidjan axis.
The project will be completed mid 2022. The execution will generate jobs for 2,000 people with French companies namely Bouygues, Keolis and Alstom as project leaders.
The subway will carry 500,000 passengers per day and will reduce travel time between the North and South of the busy capital to 50 minutes instead of several hours caused by traffic jam.
