Iran nuclear talks into 2nd day past deadline
Iran and six world powers trying to reach a deal on the country’s nuclear program have extended marathon talks for a second day past their initial deadline.
Diplomats from Iran, five UN Security Council permanent members and Germany are negotiating in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Negotiators remained locked in talks through the early hours of Thursday after a deadline to reach a framework agreement passed on Tuesday.
US Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif are among those extending their stay.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius rejoined the talks late Wednesday night.
He told reporters negotiators are a few meters from the finishing line but those are the hardest.
He urged Iran to compromise to conclude a verifiable agreement that would prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.
Observers say Fabius is hoping his return will lead to a breakthrough. He previously said he would return if it was necessary
