Côte d’Ivoire: Mohammed VI a leader who loves the continent and cares it in his heart and his mind
The King Mohammed VI who repeatedly stressed that Africa’s tremendous human and natural resources should, instead, be a powerful catalyst for regional integration, proceed in each stage of his recent tour in Africa to realize his vision based on African solidarity for development , peace and incorporated efforts between all African nations.
At his stop in Côte d’Ivoire, Moroccan Sovereign King Mohammed VI and President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire Alassane Ouattara have chaired, on Tuesday at the presidential palace in Abidjan, the signing ceremony of six agreements of bilateral cooperation in the different areas.
The agreements include:
– Agreement on the sale of State-owned shares in Société Ivoirienne de Banque (SIB) to Attijariwafa Bank (Acquisition Agreement).
– Agreement on the construction of a fish unloading point in the town of Grand-Lahou in Côte d’Ivoire.
– Agreement on the authorization of a frequency modulated emission to Radio Méditerranée Internationale in Côte d’Ivoire between the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) and Radio Méditerranée Internationale-Medi 1.
– Memorandum of Understanding between the Casablanca Finance City Authority and the Centre for Investment Promotion in Côte d’Ivoire.
– Memorandum of Understanding between the National Agency for Support to Rural Development (ANADER) of Côte d’Ivoire and the Office Cherifien des Phosphates (OCP)
– Memorandum of Understanding between the Coffee-Cocoa Board and L’Office Cherifien des Phosphates (OCP).
Subsequently, the members of the co-chair of the Moroccan-Ivorian economic impetus group were presented to the two leaders. The co-chair of this group is made up of the foreign ministers and presidents of the employers’ unions of the two countries.
Moroccan and Ivorian co-chairs of the impetus group committees were also presented to the two Heads of State.
Likewise, the King Mohammed VI has chaired three other activities conveying the deep concern of the Moroccan sovereign by African development;
The first consists on Handed Donation of Two Tons of Medicines to Ivorian Anti-Aids Program
The royal donation, offered by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development, is fully in line with the vision of HM King Mohammed VI, who endeavors to provide a humanist content to Morocco’s solidarity with African countries and South-South cooperation, through the launch of a host of programs to assist disadvantaged populations of the continent.
The royal donation, which gives a human dimension to the royal visit to Côte d’Ivoire, is another consecration of the fruitful and exemplary cooperation between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire in the field of health and medical and paramedical training.
It also reflects the determination of the Sovereign to contribute to the progress and prosperity of the brotherly Ivorian people, the establishment of a strategic, multifaceted and determined partnership between the two countries, and the mobilization of the full potential to achieve the objectives of sustainable human development in this brotherly and friendly country.
This royal donation is composed of two tons of medicines to treat opportunistic diseases and infections associated with AIDS. The lot includes three families of drugs, i.e. 800 boxes of antiviral drugs, 10,700 boxes of antibacterial drugs and 22,400 boxes of antifungal drugs.
The second project is related to relating to the building works of a fish unloading site in Grand Lahou, for a total budget of 20 million dirhams.
The project, financed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development in the amount of 13 million dirhams and the Fisheries Department (7 million dirhams), is part of South-South cooperation and reflects the strong friendship ties between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire.
This project, which will be built on an area of 3000 sq.m, is meant to improve the working conditions of local fishermen.
Located 150 km west of Abidjan, on the road to San Pedro, the project also demonstrates the commitment of Côte d’Ivoire to encourage infrastructure development in the fisheries sector, thereby creating jobs while relieving congestion in and around Abidjan.
Fishing sites located in Grand Lahou house 550 canoes, 2,790 fishermen, 1,200 fishmongers and produce about 1,950 tons of fish and shellfish.
On this occasion, explanations were provided to HM the King on this project, whose implementation will last 24 months and will include ten entities to improve fish unloading as well as the lives of artisanal fishermen.
The third project consist on the building works of a training center in construction and tourism, for a total budget of 55 million dirhams.
Spanning over an area of 3 hectares, the center will provide vocational training in construction and public works sectors, as well as tourism, hotel and catering.
The project will meet the needs of economic operators in skilled human resources, enhance the employability of young people and promote their professional integration and ensure support for major social and economic development projects undertaken by Côte d’Ivoire.
The complex will include two training courses with a capacity of more than 1,000 trainees, distributed as follows: 12 courses related to the construction sector with a capacity of 600 trainees and 9 others related to tourism, hotels and catering, with a capacity of 400 students.
The training in this complex will be provided by 28 trainers, including 16 for construction and 12 for tourism, hotels and catering.
As to the duration of training, it will last from one to two years, depending on the selected training course.
The center is expected to open its doors in October 2016
The next day, the 3rd June, HM King Mohammed VI and president of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire Alassane Ouattara chaired, on Wednesday in Abidjan, the ceremony of presenting the Cocody Bay development and preservation project worth 1.7 billion dirhams (100 billion CFA francs).
Upon their arrival at the project’s site, HM the King and the Ivorian head of State were greeted by Ivorian prime minister, minister of environment, urban heath and sustainable development, minister of economic infrastructure, tourism minister, mayors of Cocody and Plateau, deputies from the two communes, and the PM’s special advisor, co-chairman of the project’s steering committee.
On this occasion, Said Zarrou, CEO of Marchica Med, gave an address before HM the King and the Ivorian president in which he highlighted the broad lines of this project which was elaborated pursuant to the Royal instructions to safeguard and develop the Cocody Bay, and ensure the ecological restoration of this bay as well as of the Ebrié Lagoon.
The project provides for building a dam, hydraulic and marine structures, road infrastructures, crossings, a cable-stayed viaduct, a marina, un urban park and promenades.
Zarrou stressed that the project also provides for developing an ambitious program for sports, cultural, recreational and commercial facilities for Abidjan people.
This ceremony was also marked by screening a corporate film casting light on the project to safeguard and develop the Bay of Cocody.
In February 2014, HM King Mohammed VI had given His High instructions to Marchica Med to put its expertise at the disposal of the Ivorian government to conduct the environmental studies of the Ebrié Lagoon and Cocody Bay.
This project, developed in close collaboration with Ivorian authorities, covers hydraulic and sedimentary aspects, liquid and solid sanitation, landscaping, mobility and urban transport.
It also develops an urban vision for the development of the Cocody Bay and proposes solutions for the depollution of the Ebrié lagoon and the renewal of its waters.
In an address, Pierre Dimba, coordinator of the emergency urban infrastructure project, gave an overview of this integrated project that aims to provide concrete and appropriate solutions to the many urban and environmental problems plaguing the Cocody Bay.
Subsequently, four agreements relating to this project were signed before HM the King and the Ivorian president:
– Framework-Agreement to provide assistance to the contracting authority in the project to safeguard and develop the Cocody Bay.
– Mandate agreement for the structural and the financial arrangement of the project to safeguard and develop the Cocody Bay.
– Memorandum of Understanding to mobilize the priority funding for the project to safeguard and develop the Cocody Bay.
– Partnership agreement between Engineering and Development Council (CID) and the National Bureau of Technical and Development Studies (BNETD).
