ISIL suicide attacks kill at least 11 in Iraq
Suicide attacks by Islamic State militants have killed at least 11 soldiers and Shia Muslim militiamen in northern Iraq.
Four explosive-laden vehicles driven by Islamic State fighters rammed into security checkpoints and military headquarters in the Al-Hajaj district, south of the northern city of Beiji, on Saturday.
Local officials say the attacks occurred over a period of about 15 minutes.
Iraqi forces and Shia militiamen have been stepping up their offensive against the militants in northern and central parts of the country. Since last year they have been gradually winning back areas captured by the Islamic State group, with US-led air support.
But the militants have been rallying with a series of suicide bombings using large, explosive-laden cars and armored vehicles. Last month, they took control of the major city of Ramadi.
